Technical Description

The SpatiaFi Projection Hurricane Risk dataset is a raster dataset that captures the projected risk from hurricanes across the globe, under a high emissions scenario — SSP5-8.5. This dataset is based on simulations of historical and projected tropical storm tracks from HighResMIP, a component of the CMIP6 project.

This hurricane projection layer captures the future risk to hurricanes (with wind speeds greater than 74 mph) for all land locations globally. These risk maps reflect bias-corrected risk to hurricanes over the period 2015-2050 under SSP5-8.5.

This dataset contains the following fields:

  • hurricane_index: Hurricane risk index scaled between 0 and 100 based on the minimum and maximum values in the raw hurricane frequency data. This allows for a simple relative scoring between pixel locations based on their projected hurricane risk values.
