Heating and Cooling Degree Days, Projections, Decadal, Global (v1.0)

Description

This dataset provides decadal projections of annual average heating and cooling degree days in ºF for global land areas using a 65ºF threshold. It can be used to assess future heating and cooling energy demand due to changing climate conditions.

Technical Description

The Heating and Cooling Degree Days, Projections dataset provides projected average annual heating and cooling degree days based on a 65ºF threshold. A degree day is a measure of how much the average daily temperature deviates from this threshold, used to estimate heating and cooling energy demand. Using CMIP6 climate model projections of mean temperature, these data represent average annual degree days across decades 2030-2090 under the SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5 scenarios. Data are provided at an ~27 km spatial resolution as positive integers [0, ?].

This dataset contains the following fields:

  • HDD_degF: The average annual number of heating degree days in Fahrenheit over the future decadal period, using a 65ºF threshold. This is a value between 0 and ?.
  • CDD_degF: The average annual number of cooling degree days in Fahrenheit over the future decadal period, using a 65ºF threshold. This is a value between 0 and ?.
