This dataset provides a historical baseline of average heating and cooling degree days in ºF for global land areas using a 65ºF threshold. It can be used to assess in combination with Heating and Cooling Degree Days, Projections, Decadal, Global (v1.0) to assess past and future heating and cooling energy demand due to changing climate conditions.
The Heating and Cooling Degree Days, Historical, Baseline, Global (v1.0) dataset provides a historical average of annual heating and cooling degree days based on a 65ºF threshold. A degree day is a measure of how much the average daily temperature deviates from this threshold, used to estimate heating and cooling energy demand. Using CMIP6 data of mean temperature, these data represent average annual degree days between 2005 and 2015 (exclusive) under the historical scenario. Data are provided at an ~27 km spatial resolution as positive integers in the range [0, ?].
