The Grid Mix and Carbon Intensity, Historical, Baseline, US (v1.0) dataset provides a state-level baseline of the U.S. electricity generation mix and associated carbon emissions. Derived from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2023 Emissions & Generation Resource Integrated Database (eGRID), the dataset captures the composition of electricity generation by fuel type and corresponding carbon intensity across all states.
The Grid Mix and Carbon Intensity, Historical, Baseline, US (v1.0) dataset integrates state-level electricity generation and emissions data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s eGRID 2023 release (Revision 2). The dataset represents total electricity generation and carbon intensity for each U.S. state during the 2023 calendar year, disaggregated by major fuel and technology categories. Carbon intensity is calculated as the average pounds of CO? emitted per megawatt-hour of electricity generation, and generation percent shares reflect the proportional contribution of coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear, hydro, biomass, wind, solar, geothermal, and other sources. The dataset provides a consistent baseline for historical analysis and comparison for forward-looking projections.
