Technical Description

The Extreme Wind Monthly Summary product provides valuable insights into the frequency of extreme wind actuals across the globe at a monthly timescale. This product seeks to identify areas where wind conditions may cause potential damage to life and property.

The product's wind_anomaly_frequency field is an asset-centered metric that detects locations experiencing moderately high wind speeds that are concurrently above the normal conditions for that area. It considers regional acclimatization and ensures an absolute baseline for classifying extreme wind events.

This dataset contains the following fields:

  • wind_anomaly_frequency: Rate of days/month (between 0-1) where the maximum daily 1-hour wind speed is above 21 MPH (Low Threat to Life/Property) AND above the 95th baseline percentile for that location.
