Technical Description

The global Extreme Precipitation Historical Risk product captures the recent near-historical risk of extreme precipitation events across the globe using well-established precipitation indices.
These extreme precipitation products seek to identify areas across the globe where historically observed extreme precipitation events have occurred, and to capture both the likelihood of precipitation occurring in an area as well as the intensity of extreme precipitation events relative to the 90th percentile of precipitation in the area. These products can be used to assess the frequency of extreme precipitation at different locations.

This dataset contains the following fields:

  • extreme_Precipitation_frequency_probability: Probabilities (or alternatively frequencies) of extreme precipitation occurrence at pixel locations over the historical period of record used for calculation. Technically unitless but represents counts of extreme precipitation occurrences divided by the total number of data points. This is a value between 0-1.
