Technical Description

The Forecasted Drought Risk product captures forecasted changes in drought across Canada using forecasts of precipitation and evapotranspiration. These drought products seek to identify areas across the region where drought is either expected to develop, worsen, persist, improve or be removed. The drought forecast predicts how the current drought assessment will change over the course of a month, where there is at least a 50% chance of occurrence.

The drought forecast is issued at the start of each calendar month and is valid to the end of the month.

This dataset contains the following fields:

  • drought_outlook_class: This is the drought outlook classification for the anticipated change in drought conditions by the end of the month. The values range from 1-5, and can be interpreted as follows: 1. Drought removal 2. Drought improves 3. Drought develops 4. No change in drought 5. Drought worsens
