Technical Description

The Current Drought Risk product captures historical risk of drought across the US, Canada and Mexico using well-established drought monitoring metrics. These drought products seek to identify areas across the region where current drought conditions may cause losses to agriculture; affect domestic water supply, energy production, public health and wildlife; or contributes to wildfire conditions. This dataset is updated monthly, and focuses on broad-scale drought conditions. This dataset does not cover the Canadian territory of Nunavut.

This dataset contains the following fields:

  • drought_class: The drought classification for each pixel location. The values are integers from 0-4 representing the drought classes of abnormally dry (0), moderate (1), severe (2), extreme (3), and exceptional (4). No data indicates the absence of drought.
