The Current Drought Risk product captures the current risk of drought across the globe using well-established drought monitoring metrics. These drought products seek to identify global areas where current drought conditions may cause losses to agriculture; affect the supply of water, energy production, public health and wildlife; or contribute to wildfire conditions.
This dataset contains two separate layers - one for Short-term Current Drought and one for
Long-term Current Drought. The Short-term Current Drought layer uses shorter aggregation periods
of drought indices to capture drought that is likely to affect vegetation or agricultural systems.
The Long-term Current Drought layer uses longer aggregation periods of drought indices to capture
drought that is likely to affect water resources, energy production, public health, and wildlife.
