Description
This is a static historical dataset capturing watersheds within 5 km of a known coral reef. The dataset is intended to be used to identify locations with potential impacts on key marine ecosystems.
Technical Description
This Collection holds subsets of HydroSHEDS Level 12 HydroBASINS that are within 5km of coral reef as identified in the Allen Coral Atlas (version 2.0). While some HydroSHEDS in the data may not be strictly "coastal," each included HydroSHED will fall within 5km of an identified reef area. The assumption is that any location within this range may contribute to potential marine-related impacts, such as effluence, deforestation, damming, or flow attenuation. By using this threshold, the dataset ensures that relevant nearby upstream influences on key marine ecosystems are not overlooked.
This dataset contains the following fields:
- near_reef: A binary value indicating that the containing watershed is within 5 km of a coral reef. Points falling within Level 12 HydroBASINS within 5 km of a reef are assigned a value of 1.0.
